Choose To Be Absrrd

Sway MolinaAI artist, filmmaker, and founder of Absrrd

Portrait of Sway Molina

A creator journey that starts with a microphone at age 4 and moves through failure, identity, and a new kind of filmmaking.

Sway follows the thread from growing up in a Honduran family in Miami to film school, agency survival, acting, and an AI filmmaking pivot. The conversation is candid about calling himself a failed entrepreneur, killing a brand before launch, and choosing to build Absrrd around a clearer creative conviction.

The story of Sway Molina

The microphone came first

Sway’s story opens in a retirement home when a clown places a microphone in front of him. At 4 years old, he hears his own voice amplified through a loudspeaker and remembers the world stopping around that sound. The moment is small, strange, and unusually clear: performance, technology, and identity arrive together.

The creative path broke open

The route that followed was not clean. Film school, agency work, acting, commercial jobs, COVID, and industry strikes repeatedly changed what creative survival required.

When old paths stopped paying, Sway did not describe the transition politely. He called himself a failed entrepreneur and started looking for another way to make the work possible.

Absrrd became the clearer choice

Midjourney reopened the door. AI filmmaking became less about adopting a fashionable tool and more about recovering momentum across film, performance, music, and art. Absrrd grew from that recovery into a clearer position: resist the pressure to appear normal, keep experimenting, and build an identity able to move between mediums without asking permission.

Three ideas

What stays with you

  1. 01

Creative identity is often rebuilt through several failed containers.

  2. 02

New tools matter most when they sharpen rather than replace taste.

  3. 03

Killing a weak brand before launch can protect the stronger idea underneath it.
