The story of Dunks

Stories, Sneakers, and Retail

Dunks grew up in Michigan, traveled regularly to Paris with his mother, and developed an early interest in skateboarding, snowboarding, paintball, and sneakers. Visits to the Paris concept store Colette introduced him to limited shoes before many became coveted, and his preference for Nike Dunks eventually supplied his nickname. Creativity was present even when he did not identify with the label. His mother filled her home with art and improvised bedtime stories about a family dog, while his father encouraged a more business-oriented path.

At school, Dunks enjoyed writing and became the manager of a student snack shop in a retail management class. He later earned a bachelor's degree in retailing. Those strands of storytelling, products, culture, and commerce eventually converged in work that let him treat branding as both a creative practice and a business system.

A Career Path Rewritten by Circumstance

Dunks expected to enter his father's real estate business, but the 2007 recession changed that plan while he was in college. He later regretted faking an internship to manage a heavy course load because it removed a chance to gain practical experience. A legal but controversial business helped him earn money during school, yet its easy demand delayed a conventional career and eventually left him without the corporate resume employers expected. He moved through freelance marketing, graduate study in public relations, and real estate while questioning where his interests belonged.

A series of personal losses and the isolation of 2020 deepened that uncertainty. During that period, drawing humorous scenes about his dog Cashew became a way to connect with his mother. The sketches slowly revealed a more meaningful direction than the work he had been trying to force.

Turning a Book Into a Community Project

Dunks published Cashew Gets a Job on the dog's birthday in April 2021. The book follows Cashew through repeated jobs and setbacks before she writes a book herself, carrying a message about continuing after disappointment. After an early NFT purchase introduced him to digital collecting, Dunks decided to adapt Cashew into the kind of community project he wanted to join. He chose Solana for lower transaction costs and faster onboarding, then released 1,234 free collectibles with more than ninety hand-drawn job traits.

Holders can claim a physical book and download 3D files. His current plans include improved staking, raffles, small runs of printed toys, digital clothing, and groups that let holders help develop products. The goal is to build with the community and bring the resulting work to people beyond the existing collector base.
